CITOLOGIA y METODO DE REPRODUCCION EN DOS ESPECIES DE PASPALUM (GRAMINEAE)

Microsporogenesis, megasporogenesis, embryo sac development, and fertility were studied in P. regneUii Mez and P.. hydrophilum Henr. The chromosome number of P. regnellii (2n = 40) is reported for the first time. Bivalent chromosome pairing suggests alJotetraploid origin for this species with RRSS genome formula. There is no homology between R and S genomes. Cytological data suggest that P. hydrophilu_m (~n = 40) has a H H H' H' genOJlle formula with segmental.homology h,etween H and H'·genomes. Observations on megasporogenesis and embryo sac development indicate that P. regnellii reproduces sexually and P. hydrophilum by means of facultative apomixis.
