Auxological identification of mandibular rotational types in patients from 8 to 17 years: Analytical observational study

growth and development, cephalometry, malocclusionAbstract
Cephalometric diagnostic methods allow for the identification of mandibular growth potential, aiding in the
establishment of a more accurate diagnosis and the
selection of a more appropriate treatment plan. The
objective of the study was to examine the relationship
between auxological category, rotational group, and
type of rotational growth, considering age and sex. A
cross-sectional observational study was conducted on
300 profile radiographs donated by three radiological
centers in Quito, Ecuador. The cephalometric analysis,
based on Petrovic's methodology, identified the auxological
category, type of rotation, and mandibular development.
View Box 4 software was used to measure and record relevant angles and planes, with data processed in Excel and SPSS. A descriptive analysis determined the
prevalence of mandibular rotational groups, while the
chi-square test was used to examine the relationship between the type of mandibular rotation and the auxological category according to age and sex. The facial type with posterior mandibular growth direction was the
most prevalent at 20%. Regarding the auxological categories, category 2 was the most predominant at 19.3%.
The study found significant differences in auxological
categories by sex and age, but no significant differences
with the type of rotation. The analysis of craniofacial
growth and development based on bone maturation can
be crucial for designing personalized treatments tailored
to the unique characteristics of each individual.
