Estudios Limnológicos en la Cuenca del Riachuelo (Corrientes, Argentina). IV. Estudios ecológicos sobre las algas psammiticas de la Laguna Totoras
Resumen
This paper deals with a freshwater benthonic blue green algae community growingin the Totoras pond (Corrientes, Argentina) at about 4 to 5 m depth.
The community structure and distribution on the substratum are described, giving data about the clorophyll a content, primary production and related parameters.
The sand thickness occupied by the algae is about 2 cm although the photosintetic activity is restricted to the superficial layer. Thus, it seems there would be a slowly and constant sand removal in the upper strata of the sediment, with colonization of the superficial new grains by algae and the lost of them which are transfered to a lower position where no enough light is received.
