Biomasa y productividad de Potamogeton striatus R. & P. en canales de desagüe del Valle Bonaerense del Río Colorado (Buenos Aires - Argentina)
Abstract
The biomass and Net Primary Productivity (NPP) of a community of Potamogeton striatus was measured during 16 months from October 1977 to December 1978, in the drainage channels of the irrigation system of the Bonaerense valley of the Colorado River (Partidos de Villarino y Patagones) of Buenos Aires Province.
Biomass was measured by periodic harvests. NPP was evaluated by an indirect method which took into account only significant changes in biomass between consecutive harvests.
The biomass of P. striatus increase until a maximum of 1,068.1+-81.5 g.dry weight m-2. in the summer.
During the summer of 1978, the channels were weeded-off mechanically. The NPP attained a maximum of 8.2 g. dry weight m-2. day -1 before the weeding-off (January 1978), and a maximum of 24.7 g. dry weight m-2. day-1 in the late spring of 1978.
