Following the registration of Gomonia Milon Argentino with the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) in 2003 -a hybrid obtained from two native species (Miltonia flavescens × Gomesa bifolia)- the ornamental potential of intergeneric hybrids was recognized. This quickly attracted the attention of orchid breeders envisioning the use of Gomesa bifolia with other American species to produce plants with distinct flower shapes and colors, ease of cultivation, and adaptation to our regional climate. In the genus Gomesa, yellow is the predominant color, whereas Brazilian Miltonia species typically exhibit fuchsia, brown, and violet; consequently, an interesting color combination was expected in F1 generation. Gomonia Don Aurelio Schinini FCA was obtained through artificial pollination between Miltonia moreliana and Gomesa bifolia. The resulting seeds were cultured in vitro, and the plants were grown under greenhouse conditions, producing orange, pink, and yellow flowers. The hybrid was registered with the RHS’s International Register of Orchid Hybrids (UK) in honor of the botanist and taxonomist Mr. Aurelio Schinini from IBONE.
