Abstract

This article aims to account the impact that the focused Gendarmerie´s operations of had in informal popular neighborhoods of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires between 2016 and 2019 as “contexts of conviviality”. Based on an ethnographic fieldwork with gendarmes and interviews with neighbors, community activists and operators of state programs, I argue that these deployments have contributed to configure these neighborhoods as a particular form of conviviality (the “Peaceful conviviality”). Also, them have become a relevant technology for putting these informal popular territories in order, limiting margins of action for subordinate groups in their struggle for access and use of space; reinforcing previous processes of social and symbolic fractalization; and contributing to the confinement and control of cultural differences.
