Ecosocial crisis, territory and initiatives of collective action in Spain (2011-2022): strategies for a just transition

Abstract

The paper focuses on the research of a range of deeply rooted in the territory social initiatives having as their principal focus the ecosocial crisis. Their proposals influenced the political agenda of the municipal candidatures that reached the local government of several Spanish cities in 2015. More recently, the impact caused by COVID-19 pandemic, the society’s awareness about ecosocial crisis and the growing of the social and territorial inequality, opened a new period in the evolution of these collective action initiatives. The analysis shows the role they played as actors directly involved in the territory fighting to accelerate the transition through the implementation of innovative practices and the social mobilization. Activist practices don`t imply a renunciation to have an effect or, when possible, to work in conjunction with public administration on the design and implementation of the transition strategies.
