This article aims to develop a succinct critical examination of the notions of utility, implementation and purpose in architecture and urban development. Terms such as utility or function have been used in theoretical discourses without rigorous conceptual definition. Therefore, both sentences and ideologies have proliferated, that have converged in a peculiarly heteroclite manner within the current of what we prefer to characterize here as functionalist reason, that is, a slightly ambiguous manner of committing to the reason behind architecture. However, this critique of functionalist reasoning cannot simply be resolved with the proposal of rigorous Dwelling Theory and urban development. Dwelling Theory can be founded on a proposed theoretical/conceptual deconstruction of the complex idea of function.

CUADERNO URBANO sustains its commitment to the Open Access policies for scientific information, on account of the fact that both scientific publications and public funded research must circulate freely on the Internet and without restrictions.
CUADERNO URBANO ratifies the Open Access model in which the contents of scientific publications are available in full text free of charge on the Internet, without temporary embargoes, and whose editorial production costs are not transferred to the authors. This policy proposes breaking down the economic barriers that generate inequities both in access to information and in the publication of research results.
