Peer Review Process
Geográfica Digital arbitration policy uses the double-blind method. Under this system, neither reviewers nor authors receive the names or institutional affiliations of the parties involved. This minimizes any type of bias or subjectivity during the assessment process.
Reviewers assess the submissions quality based on their conceptual rigor, academic relevance, originality, and clarity of presentation. In all cases, reviewers will be external to the sponsoring institution of Geográfica Digital (IGUNNE) and will not be affiliated with the same institution as the author of the article.
The Editorial Board may directly reject submissions without resorting to an external consultation process if they consider them inappropriate for the journal because they do not meet the required quality standards, do not correspond to the journal subject matter, do not comply with the guidelines established, or show evidence of fraud.
The final assessment of the verdict might be:
- Acceptable. In this case, the layout process will advance for it to be published in the journal.
- Acceptable with minor modifications. In this case, it will be subjected to style, writing, or bibliography corrections, requests for clarification, or comments that the reviewers deem relevant on the part of the authors for publication in the journal.
- Acceptable with substantial modifications that will demand a following revision. In this case, authors will be given a specific amount of time to make corrections. Once the deadline has passed, if the authors have not made the necessary corrections or disclaimers, the article will not be published in that edition. If the authors make the necessary changes, the article will be sent back for approval. Once the final version has been approved, it will proceed to final layout and publication. If the reviewers consider that the changes have not been made, the article will not be published. This decision is final.
- Rejected. When the minimum quality standards of the journal are not met in terms of theoretical soundness or contains severe deficiencies of academic writing. In this case, the article will not be published in that issue. The decision of the reviewers is final.
In the event of conflicting opinions among reviewers, the Editorial Board will review them and make a decision, requesting a third review if necessary. The final decision cannot be appealed.
The average time for evaluation of submitted articles is four (4) months. Nevertheless, this period may change depending on the availability of the reviewers and other factors that may extend or reduce the evaluation time for each manuscript.
