Producers’ perspective on first-generation crop residue uses

Abstract

First-generation residues are considered a part of the harvest that is often overlooked. Chili and onion farmers may not be aware of the potential of processing these residues. In order to acknowledge the perspectives and willingness of chili and onion farmers to process the residues generated in their plots, a survey was conducted. The responses were then analyzed using multivariate analysis. The results of the correlation between variables are less than 1. The first five principal components explain 77 % of the behavior of the variables.  There were 26 groups, with 10 of them being producers with the willingness to transform waste. The first two principal components explain the tendencies of the producers, identifying similarities that characterize the groups of producers interested in transforming waste. This facilitates the identification of personalized proposals for waste transformation and expectations towards waste.
