Abstract

The margay (Leopardus wiedii) is a small felid that is distributed from Mexico to northern Uruguay. In Argentina, its presence had been recorded in the provinces of Salta, Jujuy and Misiones. Although it had been nominally mentioned for the province of Corrientes, there was no evidence of its presence. We present in this communication the first documented records of the species in this province, obtained between 2012 and 2019. These findings allow L. wiedii to be added to the list of carnivores that inhabit Corrientes, and extend its distribution 65 km to the south of its nearest known location in Misiones; these are the southernmost records known in Argentina.
