About the Journal

Focus and Scope

Revista Veterinaria (Rev. vet.) aims to disseminate scientific research findings and provide updated knowledge on topics directly or indirectly related to Veterinary Sciences. It publishes papers concerning production, sport, and companion animals, without excluding wildlife or laboratory species.

The journal accepts original contributions in Spanish, English, or Portuguese from both Argentine and foreign authors. Topics include morphology, physiology, nutrition, pathology, semiology, pharmacology, microbiology, parasitology, immunology, epidemiology, food hygiene, surgery, genetics, animal production, and public health.

Publication Frequency

Revista Veterinaria is published in both print and online formats, with one annual volume divided into two biannual issues (June and December).

Since Volume 36, the journal has adopted a continuous publication model, allowing the online release of the final version of an article—with its corresponding DOI—immediately after completion of the editorial process.

Manuscript submission is open year-round. All submissions undergo peer review, and accepted articles are published as soon as authors approve the final version. The Editorial Committee reserves the right to publish special issues.

Publication Ethics Statement

In Revista Veterinaria, the role of the Editorial Committee is fundamental in the publication process. The Editor-in-Chief, in the first instance, and the members of the Editorial Committee are responsible for deciding which submitted manuscripts will be accepted or rejected. These decisions are based solely on the academic merit of the work and the recommendations of external reviewers.

Peer review is an essential tool that not only contributes to editorial decisions but also provides authors with the opportunity to improve their manuscripts through constructive exchanges with expert reviewers.

Ethical Commitments of the Editor and Editorial Board

The Editor and Editorial Board members are committed to evaluating manuscripts solely on their scientific content, without discrimination based on race, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, ethnic origin, nationality, or political convictions of the authors.

Confidentiality and Conflicts of Interest

  • All manuscripts received must be treated with strict confidentiality. Their content must not be discussed or shared with anyone outside the editorial process, except with the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, editorial advisors, or editors, as appropriate.
  • The Editor-in-Chief and the editors must act diligently in response to any suspicion of ethical misconduct, including breaches of confidentiality, plagiarism, failure to disclose conflicts of interest, misuse of confidential information, or unjustified delays in review aimed at gaining a competitive advantage.
  • It is strictly prohibited to use unpublished information contained in manuscripts for personal gain, unless explicit consent is obtained from the authors.

Authorship Criteria

Revista Veterinaria strictly adheres to the ethical and authorship guidelines established by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), as detailed in its Recommendations for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing, and Publication of Scholarly Work (https://www.icmje.org/recommendations/). These principles ensure scientific integrity and transparency throughout the publication process.

Definition and Requirements for Authorship

Individuals are considered authors of a research work if their contribution has been essential and significant at various stages of the process. Specifically, to be recognized as an author, one must meet the following four fundamental criteria:: 1) Substantial contribution to the conception or design of the work, or data acquisition, analysis, or interpretation; 2) Participation in drafting or critically revising the manuscript; 3) Final approval of the version to be published; and 4) Accountability for all aspects of the work to ensure accuracy and integrity.

Participation limited to funding acquisition or data collection does not justify authorship. Authorship implies scientific and legal responsibility for the published content. The corresponding author must confirm authorship through the Letter to the Editor: Request for Article Publication.

Authors should only submit manuscripts if the work has been conducted in an ethical and responsible manner.

  • The work must be original and unpublished, related to veterinary sciences, and written in Spanish or English.
  • Manuscripts must not be submitted simultaneously to other journal(s).
  • The named authors have made a substantial contribution to the conception, design, data acquisition, analysis, or interpretation, participated in drafting or critical revision with intellectual input, approved the final version, and assume full responsibility for the work.
  • The manuscript has been read and approved by all named authors, who meet the criteria for authorship.
  • The order of authors listed in the manuscript has been approved by all contributors.
  • Authors have complied with institutional regulations regarding intellectual property, and there are no conflicts of interest associated with the publication.
  • Any aspect of the work involving experimental animals has been conducted with the ethical approval of all relevant organizations, and such approvals are acknowledged in the manuscript.

Research and Publication Ethics

Manuscripts submitted to Revista Veterinaria must derive from research conducted ethically and responsibly, in compliance with applicable laws. Authors must present their results clearly and honestly, avoiding falsification, data manipulation, or scientific misconduct.

To promote transparency, traceability, and reproducibility, a detailed and accurate description of methods is required, allowing other researchers to verify or replicate the findings.

AI tools may only be used to improve clarity and language, not to generate results, analyses, or interpretations that are the author’s intellectual responsibility.

Originality and Exclusive Publication

Manuscripts must be entirely original, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere. Any form of plagiarism, text reuse, or duplicate publication is strictly prohibited.

Authorship and Responsibility

Authorship implies collective responsibility for the work’s content. The order of authors should reflect the magnitude of each contribution to study design, data acquisition, analysis, interpretation, and writing. Any change in authorship order must be agreed upon and approved in writing by all co-authors.

Funding Transparency and Conflicts of Interest

Authors must explicitly declare all funding sources supporting the research, as well as any potential conflicts of interest that may influence interpretation of results or manuscript evaluation.

Peer Review Process

Revista Veterinaria implements a single-blind peer review process, where reviewers are aware of author identities, but authors do not know the reviewers’ identities. This confidential process ensures the scientific quality, originality, and methodological rigor of published papers.

The evaluation process includes: (a) a preliminary editorial assessment verifying compliance with submission guidelines; (b) review by at least two anonymous subject experts assessing quality, accuracy, and methodological validity. Reviewers must be knowledgeable, academically recognized, responsible, and free from conflicts of interest. They receive no payment.

Review outcomes:

  1. Accepted;
  2. Minor Revisions;
  3. Major Revisions;
  4. Rejected.

Authors have 30 days to submit revisions, highlighting changes in a different color and attaching a detailed response letter. Revised manuscripts are reassessed. In case of conflicting reviews, a third reviewer may be consulted.

Acceptance and Proofs

A manuscript is considered accepted after the review process and completion of all required revisions. It then undergoes copyediting and layout before a proof is sent to the author for final review and minor adjustments. Authors will be notified of the volume and issue of publication. Significant errors detected post-publication must be promptly reported to the Editor.

Average review time: approximately 12 weeks.

Anti-Plagiarism Policy

Revista Veterinaria requires all submissions to be original and unpublished. Detection of total or partial plagiarism results in immediate rejection during initial editorial screening.

Proper citation of ideas, data, or text from other sources is mandatory. Textual reproduction, whether from others or self-plagiarism, is discouraged. Inclusion of copyrighted or unpublished material requires authorization prior to acceptance.

The journal adheres to the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines and uses digital tools (PaperRater, Grammarly, Plagiarism Detector) to ensure originality. Confirmed cases of plagiarism or self-plagiarism will halt the review or publication process.

Persistent Identifiers (DOI)

The journal assigns Digital Object Identifiers (DOI) to its articles through the National University of the Northeast’s membership in PILA (Publishers International Linking Association, Inc.), which provides Crossref services for code assignment.

Archiving

Revista Veterinaria uses the LOCKSS system to create a distributed archiving system among collaborating libraries, allowing them to create permanent archives of the journal for preservation and restoration purposes.
