Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

Guidelines for Authors

The Scientific Journal of the Faculty of Law and Social and Political Sciences – UNNE, published by the Secretariat for Science and Knowledge Transfer of the Faculty of Law and Social and Political Sciences of the Universidad Nacional del Nordeste, is an electronic publication devoted to disseminating research of relevance to the field of law, approached from legal, social, and political sciences perspectives.

---SUBMISSION AND RECEIPT OF MANUSCRIPTS

Original manuscripts may be submitted:

Submitted manuscripts must comply with the author guidelines and publication standards applicable to the corresponding section.

The submitted Word file must be named using the author’s surname (or the surname of the corresponding author followed by “et al.” in the case of co-authored works), followed by the section to which the manuscript is submitted (example: Lopez. Research Article). The email subject line must specify the section for which the contribution is intended (example: Subject: Book Review).

The Scientific Journal of the Faculty of Law and Social and Political Sciences – UNNE shall acknowledge receipt of submissions within thirty (30) business days from receipt thereof. The final decision regarding publication rests with the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal, subject to a favorable report resulting from the double-blind peer review process. The Editor-in-Chief shall issue a decision within a maximum period of four (4) months. Depending on the organization of each issue, publication may be deferred to the subsequent issue even after acceptance. The Section Editorial Coordination shall keep authors informed regarding the status of the evaluation process and the volume in which their work will appear.

In order to ensure an effective double-blind review process, authors must remove all metadata identifying authorship prior to submission.

---GENERAL STYLE GUIDELINES FOR MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION

  1. Manuscripts submitted for publication must be original and unpublished.
  2. Languages: Spanish shall be the primary language of the Journal; however, submissions in any scientific language shall be accepted. Where the manuscript’s primary language is neither Spanish nor English, the title, abstract, and keywords must be provided in both Spanish and English.
  3. Original manuscripts submitted to the Journal must comply with the minimum and maximum length requirements established for each section. Submissions must include: title (in Spanish and English), author name(s) and brief biographical information, abstract (in Spanish and English, each not exceeding 1,500 characters including spaces), keywords (minimum of three and maximum of five, also in both languages), the body of the article, and the references cited. Within the prescribed length, authors may also include footnotes, tables, figures (charts, illustrations, images, maps, etc.), and acknowledgments where deemed necessary.
  4. Author name(s) and brief biographical information:
    • first name (initial capital letter followed by lowercase letters);
    • middle name, if applicable (initial capital letter followed by lowercase letters);
    • surname(s) (initial capital letter followed by lowercase letters);
    • university or institution of affiliation;
    • country;
    • email address (preferably institutional);
    • ORCID identifier, obtained through prior registration with ORCID;
    • highest academic degree obtained and academic position held, where applicable.
  5. Titles: The main title of the manuscript shall be presented in 14-point font, centered, and in uppercase letters, without a period at the end (neither bold nor italicized). Subheadings shall appear in 12-point bold font, left-aligned, and without a final period. Subheadings must be numbered using Arabic numerals (1, 1.1., etc.).
  6. Word Processor: Microsoft Word.
  7. Page Layout: A4 format with 3 cm margins on all sides.
  8. Typography: Times New Roman, 12-point font, black color.
  9. Footnotes: Footnotes shall be permitted exclusively for clarifications or comments and may not be used to introduce bibliographic references. They must be consecutively numbered using the automatic function of the word processor, in Times New Roman 10-point font. Alignment shall be justified, except for titles and author details.
  10. Organization of Contents: The first page must contain the article title, author name(s), brief curriculum vitae, institutional affiliation, and an email address. Author surnames and first names shall appear beneath the title, leaving one blank line, in Times New Roman 12-point bold font, centered, and in small caps format. In the case of multiple authors, such information shall appear according to the relative importance of their contribution. The second page shall contain the article title, abstracts in Spanish and English, and keywords. No headers or author names shall appear on subsequent pages; only page numbers shall be indicated in the lower right margin.
  11. Body of the Article: Paragraphs shall begin without indentation. Line spacing shall be set at 1.5, with single spacing before and after paragraphs. Alignment must be justified, and words must not be hyphenated. Any text the author wishes to emphasize, as well as words or expressions in foreign languages not commonly incorporated into Spanish usage, shall appear in italics only, never in bold or uppercase letters.
  12. Tables, Charts, and Figures: Authors wishing to include tables, charts, or figures in their manuscripts must provide references both in the text and within the figure or table itself. These must be consecutively numbered using Arabic numerals (example: Table No. 1; Figure No. 1). Each must include a title accurately reflecting its content, and the source of the information used in its preparation must be indicated in a footnote or caption.
  13. Citation Style: APA Style, 7th edition.
  14. Acknowledgments: Authors may acknowledge the contribution of individuals and institutions that assisted the research through technical support or financial assistance. This section shall appear as a primary subheading at the end of the manuscript, immediately preceding the References section.
  15. References: References shall appear as the final primary subheading at the end of the manuscript and must include all bibliographic sources cited within the text.
  16. Each manuscript must include, following the references section, a subheading entitled Author Contributions, describing the specific responsibilities of each author. Contributions must follow the structure established by the CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy) system.
  17. Submission of manuscripts and their acceptance by the Journal imply the author’s full acceptance of all publication conditions.

---REFERENCES

Every source cited in the manuscript must appear in the reference list; accordingly, every entry in the reference list must have been cited in the text.

The reference list shall be arranged alphabetically by the author’s surname, followed by initials.

The following are the most common examples:

Case Law

Judicial decisions shall appear following legislative references.

Court issuing the decision. Chamber or division (if applicable). Judgment or case number. Date of decision.

Where no judgment or case number is available, identifying information concerning the case may be provided.

Example: National Federal Court of Civil and Commercial Appeals. Chamber III. Moyano, E. I. et al. v. Expreso San Isidro SATCIFI et al. on Damages and Compensation. 03/06/2020.

---DATA CITATION AND REFERENCING

Two mechanisms must be used when citing research data. First, a data access statement must always be included. Second, citations and corresponding references must be provided.

Data Access Statement

The statement must appear together with the acknowledgment of the funding agency, where applicable.

Examples:

  • “This study was prepared using publicly available data accessible at [insert link].”
  • “This publication was prepared using multiple datasets openly available at the locations cited in the references section.”
  • “The data supporting this research are available upon request. Requests for access should be directed to dependencia@institucion.com.”

Citations and References

Dataset citations must be included in the text whenever necessary and linked to the corresponding entry in the reference list, as occurs in conventional academic writing.

Although the elements included in the reference may vary according to the characteristics of the dataset, every reference should contain the following elements:

  • Author: person or institution responsible for creating the dataset;
  • Publication date;
  • Title: title of the dataset and the cited resource, including, where applicable, the collection to which the dataset belongs;
  • Location: URL where the dataset is available;
  • Publisher: organization hosting or quality-controlling the data.

---AUTHORSHIP AND CONTRIBUTION POLICY

In order to ensure transparency in the publication of scientific works and to comply with editorial quality standards, the Scientific Journal of the Faculty of Law and Social and Political Sciences of UNNE requires all authors to specify their individual contributions to the published work.

Each manuscript must include, following the references section, a subheading entitled Author Contributions, describing the specific responsibilities of each author. Such contributions shall be detailed in accordance with the CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy) structure, including, where applicable:

  • Project administration
  • Funding acquisition
  • Formal analysis
  • Conceptualization
  • Data curation
  • Writing – review and editing
  • Investigation
  • Methodology
  • Resources
  • Writing – original draft
  • Software
  • Supervision
  • Validation
  • Visualization

Authors shall include only those contribution categories that effectively apply to the preparation of the submitted manuscript, omitting any non-applicable categories.

All authors must have read and approved both the contribution statement and the published version of the manuscript.

This declaration is mandatory in all cases involving more than one author.

---SPECIFIC STYLE REQUIREMENTS FOR EACH SECTION

The Scientific Journal of the Faculty of Law and Social and Political Sciences – UNNE is composed of the following sections:

Scientific Articles

Original and unpublished works presenting final results or significant advances in the research process. Contributions must provide valuable input for the development of legal, social, and political disciplines, demonstrating methodological coherence and valid analytical and interpretative criteria, together with updated and appropriate theoretical frameworks.

Minimum length: 30,000 characters (including spaces).
Maximum length: 45,000 characters (including spaces).

Research Mini-Articles

Original unpublished short contributions complying with the formatting and content requirements applicable to scientific articles.

Minimum length: 16,000 characters (including spaces).
Maximum length: 23,000 characters (including spaces).

Doctrinal Essays

Academic-scientific works prepared exclusively by researchers and professors with advanced academic training and recognized expertise in their disciplinary field, addressing in depth a specific issue within the field of law from legal, social, and political sciences perspectives.

Maximum length: 45,000 characters (including spaces).

Critical Reviews of Judicial Decisions and Case Law

Analyses and commentaries on judicial decisions and case law considered relevant due to their significant contributions or novel aspects for the scientific field.

Keywords shall not be included in this section.

Maximum length: 25,000 characters (including spaces).

Book Reviews and Translations

Reviews of recent and innovative bibliographic works, and translations of academic or scientific articles, whether previously published or unpublished in other languages, relevant to law and the social and political sciences, from the last four years. Authors may not review works authored or co-authored by themselves.

Translations must be of high quality, faithful to the original text, and accompanied by the corresponding authorization from the author or publisher holding the rights to the original work.

Keywords shall not be included in this section.

Maximum length: 25,000 characters (including spaces).

---EVALUATION OF MANUSCRIPTS

The Scientific Journal of the Faculty of Law and Social and Political Sciences – UNNE adopts the double-blind peer review system for manuscripts submitted to the following sections: Scientific Articles, Research Mini-Articles, and Doctrinal Essays. This evaluation process, conducted by reviewers external to the author’s affiliated institution under strict reciprocal anonymity between authors and reviewers, ensures more efficient and objective quality control and higher standards of editorial transparency.

The evaluation forms used are as follows:

Critical reviews of judicial decisions and case law, as well as book reviews and translations, shall not ordinarily be subject to peer review, without prejudice to the prior and rigorous assessment conducted by the Editor-in-Chief with the collaboration of the Editorial Team. Depending on the complexity, depth, or length of the submission, the Editor-in-Chief may nevertheless submit such contents to an external reviewer.

Authors retain copyright ownership and grant, free of charge and on a non-exclusive basis, to the Faculty of Law and Social and Political Sciences of the Universidad Nacional del Nordeste, as the publishing entity, the rights of reproduction, distribution, and public communication necessary for the dissemination of their work in the Scientific Journal of the Faculty of Law and Social and Political Sciences, as well as through the University’s own portals and any other repositories or portals deemed appropriate by the institution.

In the case of authors maintaining permanent or temporary employment relationships with the Universidad Nacional del Nordeste, economic rights over authorship shall belong to the University in the cases established by Articles 2, 3, and 4 of Resolution 641/98 C.S. UNNE. In all cases, authors retain moral rights over their creations.

Third parties are permitted to distribute, copy, and display the article provided that proper attribution is made to the author(s), to its publication in the Scientific Journal of the Faculty of Law and Social and Political Sciences – UNNE, and to the corresponding issue and page numbers.

Artículos científicos

Trabajos originales e inéditos que demuestren resultados finales o avances significativos del proceso de investigación. Deberán brindar aportes valiosos para el desarrollo de las distintas disciplinas jurídicas, sociales y políticas, demostrando coherencia metodológica y la utilización de criterios válidos de análisis e interpretación, así como marcos y contenido teóricos actualizados y adecuados.

La extensión mínima requerida para los artículos pertenecientes a esta sección es de 30.000 caracteres (con espacios) y la máxima es de 45.000 caracteres (con espacios).

Mini-artículos de investigación

Trabajos originales inéditos de corta extensión que cumplan los requisitos de formato y contenido del artículo de investigación, con un mínimo de 16.000 caracteres (con espacios) y máximo de 23.000 caracteres (con espacios).

Reseñas críticas de sentencias y jurisprudencia

Análisis y comentarios de sentencias judiciales y jurisprudenciales que se consideren relevantes debido a que aportan contenidos significativos o novedades para el ámbito científico.

Ensayos de doctrina

Trabajos académico-científicos, realizados exclusivamente por investigadores y docentes de avanzada formación y consagrados en su especialidad disciplinar, que aborden en profundidad una problemática o cuestión específica del campo del derecho, desde las disciplinas jurídicas, sociales y políticas.

Reseñas de libros y traducciones

Reseñas de obras bibliográficas recientes y novedosas, y traducciones de artículos académicos o científicos previamente publicados o no en otros idiomas, que sean relevantes para el derecho, las ciencias sociales y políticas, de los últimos 4 años. No podrán comentarse obras de autoría o coautoría propia. Las traducciones deberán ser de alta calidad, fieles al original, y estar acompañadas de la autorización correspondiente del autor o la editorial que posea los derechos de la obra original.
