Environmental certifications: comparative analysis of LEED and EDGE for the Buenos Aires SustentArq Seal

Abstract

The article comparatively analyzes the international LEED and EDGE systems as precedents for designing the SustentArq Seal, aimed at low- and medium-density housing in intermediate cities of Buenos Aires Province. An exploratory, descriptive and applied design was used, with a predominantly qualitative approach combining documentary and regulatory review, comparative matrices and territorial contrast in Mar del Plata and Tandil. The results show that LEED contributes a multidimensional structure, while EDGE provides an operational logic based on verifiable savings and local baselines. However, both systems require adaptation to regional climatic, regulatory, economic and construction conditions. A preliminary six-dimension matrix and a traceability chain linking sources, decisions and indicators are proposed. The study concludes that a regional protocol should be gradual, verifiable and accessible, and should integrate building performance, territorial planning and local identity.
