Between rules and recognition: the first scientific article in the construction of the research craft
Keywords:
scientific field, scientific writing, researcher training, academic socializationAbstract
This essay analyzes the first scientific article as an initial moment of insertion into the academic field, examining it not only as a writing exercise but as a device for academic socialization. From a theoretical perspective that articulates Pierre Bourdieu's (2003) notion of field, contemporary research regulation and evaluation systems, and the analysis of academic genres, it is argued that this experience operates as a structuring moment in the formation of research identity. Initial scientific writing implies a process of appropriation of rules and criteria that guide and legitimize the production and circulation of knowledge in higher education. In this process, structural, evaluative, and discursive dimensions converge that configure the conditions for recognition of scientific practice. Likewise, the apparently technical nature of teaching academic writing is problematized, highlighting its formative, political, and institutional dimension. It is concluded that teaching how to write scientific articles requires enabling a critical understanding of the scientific field and its validation mechanisms, directly challenging university research training spaces. Thus, the article provides a theoretical reflection aimed at strengthening the training of researchers in the educational field.
