Use of state-produced houses and associated energy consumption patterns: survey in cities of northeast Argentina

Abstract

With the objective of understanding typical scenarios and identifying common usage patterns related to well-being and energy consumption, surveys were conducted among residents of five typological cases of mass-produced public housing built in Resistencia, Corrientes, Posadas, and Formosa between 2004 and 2023. It was recorded that 48% of the dwellings incorporate some form of economic-productive activity, 58% featured indoor floor area expansions, 83% possessed at least one air conditioning unit, 52% had two, and only 13% owned space-heating equipment. During warm seasons, 90% of the time openings to the outside were kept open coincided with hours when the outdoor air was warmer than the indoor air. Furthermore, only 25% perceived the benefit of reducing the operational intensity of thermal conditioning equipment to rationalize energy use. Finally, usage traits are defined to serve as useful inputs for future occupancy modeling in dynamic building performance evaluations.
