Abstract

Verg. ecl. 1, 69 has been subject of very different interpretations from the ancient commentaries to the editions, commentaries and studies of our own days. The aim of our contribution is not to provide a new solution, but rather to review the existing readings in order to reflect on the question of which the verse is part of (vv. 67-69). The possible allusion to the figure of Odysseus in it opens up the possibility to enrich the interpretation of the poem as a whole.
