Abstract

This essay analyzes the production and circulation of hate speech in digital environments, using the miniseries Adolescence (2025) as a starting point to investigate its effects on adolescent subjectivities. Initially, based on a systemic approach (Gelber, 2021), hate speech and its potential harms are defined. Then, from an epidemiological perspective (Tirrell, 2018), the study examines how digital infrastructure modifies the dynamics of propagation and reception of harmful discourses (Popa-Wyatt, 2023). Finally, the essay discusses the scope of state regulation, highlighting the need to build comprehensive strategies that link training in critical thinking and democratic values with the promotion of counter-discourses, aiming to strengthen the social bond.
