Narratives of a Territory: Water and Social Reproduction Strategies at Finca El Paraíso

Abstract

This article aims to deepen the analysis of the social reproduction strategies of peasant-producing populations, following the theoretical perspective proposed by Bourdieu. In this context, we will focus on how families implement different strategies to ensure their permanence in the territory and maintain their social position, families faced with a particular problem that is difficult access to safe water. These strategies on the ground imply concrete actions, which are also manifested through narratives that reflect the experiences, values ​​and aspirations of families in relation to their surroundings. A descriptive approach is planted on the social-environmental problem linked to access to hand water with the loss and degradation of native forests, with its respective correlate in the current climate crisis, later delving deeper into the specific case of Finca El Paraíso and in The last instance is to analyze the narratives of the residents around the selection of analytical pairs. The qualitative methodology will allow us to explore these narratives to understand the underlying mechanisms that guide the behavior and decisions of families in their fight for social reproduction.
